My name is Lovkush Agarwal. I recently decided to change careers and become a
data scientist. Following David Robinson’s’
advice, I decided to create this blog, to record my progress, learning and projects.
After seeing the visualisations of gradient descent in the FastAI course, I thought I'd try to create my own. I start by looking at gradient descent applied to linear, quadratic and sinusoidal data.

I create my first image classifier and create a 'web app' out of it. Though I succeeded in the end, this project was particularly frustrating.
Sep 8, 2020
I end the series by showing the plots created by joining my movie watching data with the imdb database.
Sep 2, 2020
I play around a little with FastAI's sentiment analysis model at the end of lesson 1.
Aug 30, 2020
I have my first experience of image processing, and of using a pre-trained network.
Aug 28, 2020
I produce various charts based on the data collected in previous blog posts. I only look at the data without joining with imdb data - that will be done next time.
Aug 24, 2020
I try to join the tables, but things are not so smooth.
Aug 19, 2020
I describe the rabbit hole I ended up in by trying to learn about the CAP Theorem.
Aug 14, 2020
I started the Deep Learning course by FastAI. I describe my initial impressions here.
Aug 9, 2020
There was a major bug in my first attempt at scraping!
Aug 6, 2020
I briefly describe the tidying that I did.
Aug 3, 2020
I start a new project, analysing my hand-made movie watching records since 2008.
Aug 2, 2020
I describe my first ever open-source contribution!
Jul 30, 2020
I briefly describe my first experience web scraping, for STEP past papers and solutions.
Jul 27, 2020
I tidy up the notes created in the previous two entries of the series, to make it more coherent and to highlight key ideas and lessons.
